Just came back from a trip to Orange County (California) Airport (SNA) to get a bike BOX for my upcoming cross-USA tour.

Since I will be flying on Southwest to Seattle for the tour start, I went to the Southwest counter to see if they had any bike BOXes. They didn't have any. I wasn't too surprised, since Orange County is a fairly small airport. They suggested to check with United and that they might be the only airline at the airport that has bike BOXes.

So I walked over to the United counter. Sure enough they had bike BOXes that were in new condition. But I guess they don't sell too many of them, since it seemed like forever for the attendant to do all of the stuff in the computer to take my $10. The last time I got a BOX at the airport was from Delta at Ontario (California) Airport (ONT), and that went a lot smoother.

I know I could have used a bike BOX from a bike shop, but I have a late night arrival in Seattle, and it is nice to be able to arrive without having to reassemble wheels, fenders, and racks.

By the way, the measurements of the United bike BOX are 69.75 x 8.75 x 40.25.

(George F., feel free to quote this for your website.) OK, I did.
